Imagine a world plunged into darkness because people took the light of the sacred bonfires for granted. Disappointed, the Guardians of Light retreated, leaving the cities in shadow. Now, it's up to you and your group of gnomes to bring the light back! In Bonfire: Big Box, which includes both the base game and the Trees & Creatures expansion, you lead these tiny heroes on a quest to regain the Guardians' trust and reignite the bonfires.
The core of the game is a clever puzzle system on your individual player board. You'll fit three-colored tiles together to create powerful combos. The trick is that placing identical colors adjacent to one another grants you more action tiles of that specific type. This allows you to specialize your gnome: do you want to be a master navigator or a talent recruiter? The choice is yours!
Throughout the game, you'll use these tiles to sail to islands, accept tasks from the Guardians by spending resources, and, upon completion, reignite the bonfires. You can also invite Guardians into your city, trigger processions to gather resources, add landscape tiles, and recruit new gnomes with unique abilities or victory points. The game proceeds in turn order until a set number of tasks are solved, followed by a final sprint of five turns. Victory goes to the player who most efficiently brightens their city and earns the Guardians' trust, scoring points for the bonfires and the improvements made to them, such as portals and landscapes. It's an engine-building game where every tile placed opens new possibilities, requiring strategic planning to optimize your space and actions.
