About the game
What you do in a play session
Get ready for a smoky, themed counting session with Bong Hit 99! This print-and-play card game for 2 to 8 players uses a standard 52-card deck and a rulebook with reference cards. Born from a folk game called '99' in Amherst, Massachusetts, back in 1993, this souped-up version adds elements like the 'slide,' 'bonus hit,' 'Loading Duty,' and the 'backfire,' promising hilarious twists. Each player starts with four cards in hand. On your turn, you play a card, announce the new total (the 'Count'), and draw a new card. Most cards add their face value to the Count, but Kings are the kings of the party and jump the Count straight to 99! If all cards in your hand would push you past 99, you're out of the round. But the real magic happens when the Count hits exactly 99. That's when the special cards kick in: Twos and Nines pass the turn, a Ten drops the Count to 89, and the Queen of Spades becomes the dreaded 'Death Card,' eliminating the next player unless they have the Ace of Diamonds to shield themselves. In two-player games, the Death Card rule is a bit gentler. The last player standing wins the round and the prize. But the fun doesn't end there: if an eliminated player holds the Ace of Clubs in their endgame hand, they steal the prize, and this 'chain of Clubs' can even pass the prize to another player at the table. It's a quick, fun game perfect for livening up any gathering!
