Objective of the Game

Welcome, fellow Rabbit Lords, to the New World! In Bunny Kingdom, you're on a grand quest for the Bunny King to conquer, explore, and develop the best lands this world has to offer. You'll be constructing mighty Cities, farming valuable Resources, and accumulating precious Golden Carrots (🥕). Don't forget to complete secret Missions for His Majesty!

This is a game of drafting and placement played over four exciting Rounds. Every choice you make can bring you closer to victory, but in the end, only the most valiant among you will earn the esteemed title of "Big Ears" from the Bunny King. The player with the most Golden Carrots (🥕) at the end of the game wins!

Preparation (Setup)

Let's get this new world ready for conquest! Here's how to set up your game of Bunny Kingdom:

  1. Place the large New World board, with its integrated Score Track, right in the middle of your table.
  2. Take all the Strength 1 Cities and place one on each designated City space on the board. These are neutral for now!
  3. Each player chooses a color. Take all 36 of your chosen color's Rabbit figurines and place them in front of you. Then, place one of your Rabbits on space 0 of the Score Track.
  4. Place the remaining Cities (Strength 2 and 3) and all Building tokens (Farms, Sky Towers, and Camps) in a general supply next to the board.
  5. Gather all 182 Exploration cards, shuffle them thoroughly, and place them face-down to form the main Deck next to the New World board.
  6. Each player should take a Player Aid card to keep track of the rules.

You're all set! Get ready to draft some cards and claim your territories!

The Game Turn

Bunny Kingdom is played over four Rounds, and each Round consists of three exciting Phases, played simultaneously by all players:

  1. Exploration Phase
  2. Construction Phase
  3. Harvest Phase

Let's break down each phase:

1. Exploration Phase

This is where you'll be acquiring new lands and planning your empire! At the start of each round, deal cards to each player:

  • 12 cards in a 3-player game
  • 10 cards in a 4-player game

The Exploration Phase involves repeating two steps until all cards in hand are played:

A - Draft Cards

Look at the cards in your Hand and secretly choose 2 cards you want to keep. Place these two cards face-down in front of you. Then, pass the remaining cards face-down to your neighbor.

  • During Rounds 1 and 3, pass cards to the player on your left.
  • During Rounds 2 and 4, pass cards to the player on your right.

Special Rule for 2-Player Games: Each round, both players take 10 cards into their hand and place 10 cards face-down as their Reserves. Before each draft, draw 1 card from your Reserve and add it to your Hand. Then, choose 1 card to play and 1 card to discard (face-down). Pass the other cards to your opponent face-down.

B - Play Cards

Once everyone has drafted their cards, all players simultaneously reveal and play the 2 cards they chose:

  • If you play a Parchment card: Place it face-down in front of you. These are secret until the end of the game, but you can look at your own Parchment cards anytime.
  • If you play a Territory card: Place one of your Rabbits on the matching Territory on the board (identified by its coordinates). You now control this Territory. If an opponent's Camp is there, remove their Rabbit and the Camp token before placing yours. Discard the Territory card.
  • If you play a Building card: Place it face-up in front of you and put the corresponding City or Building token (Farm, Sky Tower, or Camp) on it. These will be placed on the board during the Construction Phase. Discard the Building card after placing the token/city.
  • If you play a Provisions card: Immediately draw and play two additional cards from the Deck. Discard the Provisions card.

After playing your cards, pick up the cards your neighbor passed to you. Repeat these two steps (Draft and Play) until all cards have been played. Once the last cards are played, move to the Construction Phase.

2. Construction Phase

Now it's time to build up your burgeoning empire! During this phase, you can place any Buildings (Cities or tokens) you collected from Building cards onto the New World board. You are never forced to place a Building; you can save them for later rounds.

Here are the rules for placing Buildings:

  • You can only place Buildings on Territories you control, with one exception: Camps can only be placed on empty Territories (no Rabbits or other Buildings).
  • Always respect any Building Requirements. For example, Luxury Resource Farms and Strength 3 Cities can only be placed on specific Territory Types (e.g., a Forest for a Mushroom Farm, or a Mountain for a Strength 3 City).
  • Once a Building is placed, it cannot be moved.
  • Only one Building (City or token) can be on a Territory at a time.
  • If you place a Building on a Territory that already produces a basic Resource (like Wood from a Forest), it continues to produce that Resource in addition to the Building's effect.

Effects of Buildings:

  • Cities (Strength 1, 2, or 3): Increase the Strength of your Fief by 1, 2, or 3 respectively.
  • Farms: Increase the Wealth of your Fief by adding new Resources.
  • Sky Towers: These powerful tokens connect two of your Territories that are in different Fiefs, making them part of the same, larger Fief.
  • Camps: Allow you to control an empty Territory. Camps have a priority number. If multiple players want to place a Camp, the player with the lowest priority number goes first. If an opponent later plays a Territory card that matches your Camp's Territory, your Camp is removed, and they take control.

3. Harvest Phase

Time to reap what you've sown! In this phase, all players simultaneously calculate the Golden Carrots (🥕) produced by their Fiefs.

Remember, a Fief is a group of connected Territories you control. Territories are connected if they meet on their sides (not diagonally), unless separated by a Lava Flow. All connected Territories in a Fief share their Resources and Cities.

Important: A Fief only provides Golden Carrots (🥕) if it has at least one City and one Resource.

The Golden Carrots (🥕) from a Fief are calculated as: Strength x Wealth

Determining the Strength of a Fief:

The Strength of a Fief is the total number of Towers in all its Cities. A Strength 1 City has one Tower, a Strength 2 City has two, and a Strength 3 City has three.

Determining the Wealth of a Fief:

The Wealth of a Fief is equal to the number of different Resources it produces. Even if a Fief produces five Wood, it only counts as 1 for Wealth. If it produces Wood, Fish, and Carrots, its Wealth is 3.

After calculating your Golden Carrots (🥕) for each Fief, move your Rabbit up on the Score Track. If you pass 100 🥕, place a second Rabbit on the +100 space, and so on.

Once the Harvest Phase is complete, if it's not the end of Round 4, deal new cards and begin a new Round!

End of Game and Scoring

The game concludes after the Harvest Phase of the 4th Round. This is the moment of truth!

Revealing Parchments:

One at a time, each player reveals their secret Parchment cards.

  • Treasures automatically grant Golden Carrots (🥕).
  • Missions are rewarded with Golden Carrots (🥕) if you have fulfilled their specific requirements (e.g., controlling a certain number of Cities, producing specific Resources).

For every Golden Carrot (🥕) you gain from Parchments, move your Rabbit up on the Score Track.

The player with the most Golden Carrots (🥕) wins the game and is crowned "Big Ears"! In case of a tie, the tied players share the victory.

Tips for Victory

Want to be the "Big Ears" of the New World? Here are a few pointers to get you started:

  1. Focus on Fief Synergy: Remember, a Fief's score is Strength x Wealth. A Fief with high Strength but low Wealth, or vice-versa, won't score as many Golden Carrots (🥕). Aim for a good balance! Try to connect your Territories to create larger Fiefs that can share many different Resources and benefit from multiple Cities.
  2. Parchments are Game Changers: Don't underestimate the secret power of Parchment cards! While you keep them hidden, they can be worth a massive amount of Golden Carrots (🥕) at the end of the game. Try to draft Parchments that align with your developing strategy, or even build your strategy around a powerful Mission you've collected. Keep an eye on the number of Parchments your opponents have, as this is public information!
  3. Resource Diversity is Key for Wealth: When building Farms and controlling Territories, prioritize getting a variety of Resources within your Fiefs. Even if you have many Forests producing Wood, for Wealth calculation, it only counts as one "Wood" Resource. Seek out different basic Resources (Fish, Wood, Carrots) and especially Luxury Resources from Luxury Resource Farms to boost your Fiefs' Wealth.
