In 2022, Burncycle released the BioDefend expansion, adding a new corporation to fight and a powerful CEO that will push even the most seasoned players. BioDefend, known for producing advanced weaponry, becomes the biggest threat the agent team must face, and the CEO adds a layer of danger that can shift the course of any campaign. The expansion brings 2 new neoprene rooms, serving as battle zones with cover and recharge points, plus 1 threat card that can trigger unexpected events. Eight mission cards introduce fresh objectives, demanding coordination among players to achieve infiltration, sabotage, and rescue goals. The CEO chip allows a player to temporarily control the enemy, adding a “reverse-turn” dynamic that heightens tension. Fifteen additional equipment and dice cards provide more armament and ability options, while two guard captain cards and two guard chips bolster team defense. Nine imperative cards bring instant reactions that require rapid decisions, and five mods let players tweak difficulty or scenario theme. Mechanically, the expansion keeps the action‑point and action‑queue systems but deepens grid movement and moving‑multiple‑units, making each turn more strategic. The modular board remains a source of replayability, and the scenario campaign keeps the narrative flowing. For those who already know Burncycle’s base and enjoy tough cooperative play with high strategy and tension, BioDefend is a worthwhile upgrade. If you’re after something more casual, the learning curve may feel steep, but the gameplay remains engaging and rewarding.
