About the game
What you do in a play session
Ever had that moment where you wanted to place a meeple on a tile, but you were out of followers or the tile was too small for two? That's where 'The Phantom' comes in. This mini-expansion brings a touch of magic (and a lot of strategy) to the Carcassonne map through transparent meeples that act as 'ghosts'.
The dynamic is simple but shifts how you manage your followers. Each player gets a phantom in their color. The big trick is that you can place your phantom on the same tile as a regular follower, as long as they occupy different features (one on the road and another in the city, for example). This allows you to attempt to dominate two fronts simultaneously with a single terrain tile, something that would normally be impossible.
Additionally, the phantom is versatile: it can be placed on its own, functioning exactly like a regular meeple. Once you retrieve your phantom after scoring, it returns to your reserve for future use. It's the perfect tool for players who enjoy playing on the edge, attempting to steal cities or roads more aggressively.
Another charming detail is the presentation. The game comes in a themed box shaped like a giant meeple, which serves as both storage and a shelf decoration. It's a small upgrade in size, but it adds an interesting tactical layer for those who have already mastered the base game and want more flexibility when allocating their workers.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers before you buy
Do I need the base game to play?
Yes! This is a mini-expansion, so you need the original Carcassonne to use the phantoms.
Does the phantom count as a normal meeple?
Yes, it works exactly like a regular follower, with the added advantage of being able to share a tile with another of your meeples.
How many people can play with this expansion?
The expansion supports 2 to 6 players, depending on how many phantoms you have available.
Is it hard to learn?
Not at all! If you already know how to play Carcassonne, you'll learn how to use the phantom in less than a minute.
What's inside the box?
It includes one transparent phantom meeple in the chosen color and a themed meeple-shaped box.
