About the game
What you do in a play session
Cavern Shuffle: Maze of the Minotaur brings the charm of classic solitaire into the world of dungeon exploration. Instead of just turning cards, you guide a small party of adventurers who must level up to uncover the dark corridors of the dungeon and face the dreaded Minotaur. The game uses a standard deck, but each suit represents a type of character: two noble (Lawful) and two chaotic (Chaotic). As you move cards to the top pile, these characters gain experience and become stronger, allowing you to overcome obstacles and confront enemies.
The setup is almost identical to traditional Solitaire: seven piles of cards forming the dungeon and a draw pile representing exploration. The twist is that the Minotaur appears face‑up on the first pile, and a “Short Rest” sits above it, acting as your initial inventory. You start with one item and can find three more as you progress.
The core level‑up mechanic adds a strategic layer: each card placed on the top of a party pile determines that character’s individual level, and the sum of these levels defines the party’s total power. Obstacle encounters require a specific character to reach a minimum level, while enemy encounters require the party’s total level to be high enough to pass.
The Minotaur has a special trick: every time you level up a character, it moves one space along the dungeon, blocking the spot you occupied. When it reaches the seventh column, it flips over and starts retreating. If your party’s total level reaches 30, you defeat the Minotaur and win the game. The blend of cards, character progression, and a dynamically moving boss makes this a unique solo experience that mixes strategy, luck, and a dash of dungeon‑crawler adventure.
