Game Objective

In Century: Golem Edition, you take on the role of crystal traders. Your goal is to collect crystals and use them to build powerful Golems. The game is a race to collect Point Cards, and the player with the most points after the final scoring is the winner.

Setup

  1. Shuffle the Point Cards (Golem back) to form a face-down deck. Draw 5 cards and place them face-up in a row to the left of the deck.
  2. Place a pile of Copper Tokens (equal to 2x the number of players) above the first (leftmost) Point Card.
  3. Place a pile of Silver Tokens (equal to 2x the number of players) above the second Point Card.
  4. From the Merchant Cards (Crystal backs), separate the 10 cards with a purple border. Give each player one ‘Create 2’ card and one ‘Upgrade 2’ card to form their starting hand. Return any remaining starting cards to the box.
  5. Shuffle the remaining Merchant Cards into a face-down deck. Draw 6 cards and place them face-up in a row to the left of the deck to create a display.
  6. Separate crystals by color and place them in diamond-shaped bowls in this order: Yellow, Green, Turquoise, and Magenta. This order represents the crystals from least to most valuable.
  7. Take the Caravan Cards (brown backs). Take one Caravan card per player, including the First Player Caravan card (marked with a purple crystal). Shuffle them face-down and deal one to each player. The player with the purple crystal icon is the first player.
  8. Distribute starting crystals into players' caravans according to clockwise turn order:
    • 1 Player: 3 yellow crystals
    • 2 Players: 4 yellow crystals
    • 3 Players: 4 yellow crystals
    • 4 Players: 3 yellow crystals and 1 green crystal
    • 5 Players: 3 yellow crystals and 1 green crystal

Game Flow

The game is played over a series of rounds. In each round, players take turns in clockwise order, starting with the first player. On your turn, you must perform exactly one of the four available actions. After a player finishes their turn, they must check their Caravan Limit: if they have more than 10 crystals, the excess must be discarded to the bank.

Actions and How to Play

On your turn, you must choose one of the following actions:

1. Play a Merchant card

Place a Merchant card from your hand face-up in front of you and resolve its effect. There are three possible effects:

  • Gain Crystals: Gain the crystals depicted in the top left (no arrows).
  • Upgrade Crystals: Exchange 1 crystal from your caravan for the next level crystal depicted on the card. You may upgrade the same crystal multiple times (once per depicted crystal) or different crystals once.
  • Trade Crystals: Exchange the crystals shown above the purple down arrow for the crystals shown below the arrow. This can be done any number of times as long as you have the required crystals.

2. Acquire a Merchant Card

To take a card from the display, pay for it by placing one crystal from your caravan on each Merchant card to the left of the card you want. Then, take the chosen card into your hand and gain any crystals that were on that card.

  • The leftmost Merchant card is free.
  • After acquiring a card, slide the remaining cards to the left to close the gap and draw a new card from the deck to fill the empty slot at the end.

3. Rest

Take all your previously played Merchant Cards back into your hand.

4. Claim a Point card

If you have all the crystals shown on a Point card in your caravan, return those crystals to the bank and take the Point card face down.

  • Fill the empty slot by sliding the remaining Point Cards to the left and drawing a new one from the deck.
  • If you claim the leftmost or second leftmost Point card, you also take one copper token (3 Points) or one silver token (1 point), depending on which supply is above that card.
  • If the copper tokens run out, the silver tokens slide to the leftmost position.

Game End and Scoring

The game ends when a player takes their 6th (in 2/3 player games) or 5th (in 4/5 player games) Point Card. The current round is completed, and then final scoring occurs.

Final Scoring:

  • Point Cards: Sum the face points on each Point Card claimed.
  • Copper/silver tokens: Each copper token is worth 3 Points; each silver token is worth 1 Point.
  • Remaining Crystals in Caravan: Each non-yellow crystal (green, turquoise, magenta) is worth 1 point.

The player with the most points wins. In the event of a tie, the last player to take a turn wins.

Tips for Winning

  • Utilize the Merchant card display to acquire cards for free by targeting the leftmost card.
  • Manage your Caravan Limit carefully, as you cannot keep more than 10 crystals at the end of your turn.
  • Prioritize claiming the leftmost or second leftmost Point cards to earn extra copper or silver tokens.
