Cosmoctopus places you at the heart of an intergalactic adventure, where each player takes on the role of a devotee chasing the glory of the Great Inky One. The board is not fixed: tile pieces are assembled modularly each game, creating an "Inky Realm" that changes every time and keeps the surprise alive. The core mechanic revolves around building a card engine, where you gather resources, buy cards of relics, scriptures, hallucinations, and constellations, and combine them into combos that generate tentacles. The goal is to be the first to accumulate eight tentacles, which opens a portal to the Inky Realm. The game runs for 1 to 4 players, but also offers solo and cooperative modes thanks to its "Variable Set-up" structure that allows adjusting difficulty and complexity each session. Components are sturdy: wooden pieces, a wooden board, and a well-illustrated card deck. The learning curve is not steep; the "Hand Management" and "Open Drafting" mechanics are intuitive, but planning the expansion of the card engine brings strategic depth. If you enjoy games that mix modular exploration, engine building, and a touch of cosmic horror, Cosmoctopus is a choice that will surprise you. The game offers fun for groups seeking cooperative challenges as well as for those who prefer testing their own strategy in solo play.
