About the game
Day of the Dead is a card duel where you and a friend take on the role of necromancers summoning armies of undead. Each player starts with a hand of nine cards representing skeletons, zombies, vampires and other spooky creatures. In each turn you choose a card to place on the field, where it battles the opponent’s corresponding card. Battles are resolved sequentially, from the newest slot to the oldest, and the winner stays on the board while the loser flips face‑down. However, the undead can reassemble: if you don’t want a loser to return next turn, you can turn it into a spirit, which then boosts all your cards or allows strategic substitutions. The “Campaign / Battle Card Driven” mechanic weaves a narrative of six turns, where each duel contributes to the final victory. Hand management is key, as you can only have two copies of the same title in play, except on the last turn when you can break that rule. Variable Player Powers add layers of tactics, giving each player unique abilities that evolve as the game progresses. The ultimate goal is to accumulate victory points, calculated from the power of active cards at the end of the six turns. With just 30 minutes of play, the game delivers a quick yet deep experience that demands attention to positioning, spirit timing, and clever use of power cards. If you enjoy macabre card duels, engaging strategy, and a theme that blends the supernatural with competition, Day of the Dead is a pick that won’t disappoint.
