About the game
What you do in a play session
Imagine the world has ended, and you are one of the few survivors trying to escape a zombie nightmare. In Dearly Departed, tension is your main ingredient. You and your small group of survivors have caught a desperate message over the radio: evacuation choppers are heading to the City Center! It sounds like a perfect escape, right? But don't be fooled, the journey there won't be a walk in the park.
To reach your goal, you'll have to navigate urban chaos and the constant threat of the undead. Every step taken consumes precious resources and could cost the lives of valuable group members. You'll need luck and a solid strategy to manage what's left of your supplies. The game uses dice rolling and icon resolution mechanics to determine the success of your actions, blending 'push your luck' elements with the need to manage resources for movement across the map.
As a paper-and-pencil game, the experience is heavily focused on narrative and risk management. You'll have to decide the right moment to push forward or retreat to conserve what you have. If you can make it to the City Center and have the required supplies for boarding, victory is yours. But beware: in a zombie apocalypse, the line between survival and the end is very thin, and one miscalculation could leave you behind as the chopper takes off.
