About the game

What you do in a play session

Dien Bien Phu: The Final Gamble is a gripping wargame recreating the decisive 1954 battle between French forces and the Viet Minh. You'll command either side in this no-compromise showdown - either France holds out, or the Viet Minh forces surrender. The hex map meticulously details the Dien Bien Phu valley and its fortifications (colorfully named after the French general's mistresses!). Each hex equals 150m and each turn covers 3 days of combat. Manage scarce supplies, limited artillery, and troops with fluctuating morale - from battle-hardened French Legionnaires to Viet Minh peasant recruits. The combat system uses dual dice rolls, creating tension with each assault: first the defender reacts, then the attacker strikes. Don't expect logistical miracles - both French paratroopers relying on air drops and Vietnamese troops supplied through jungle trails will feel the pinch. Victory? All or nothing. Just like the historical battle that ended on turn 19 (of 21 possible) with French defeat.
