About the game
What you do in a play session
Get ready to have your mind and soul frozen! Eldritch Horror: Mountains of Madness is the second expansion for the acclaimed Eldritch Horror, and it throws you straight into the icy heart of Antarctica. Inspired by H.P. Lovecraft's classic novella, this expansion invites you to follow in the footsteps of a doomed expedition and venture into the imposing City of the Elder Things. And let me tell you, what happens down there doesn't stay down there: the horrors that awaken in the glaciers spread across the globe, threatening all of humanity.
To face this chilling challenge, you'll have eight new investigators at your disposal, each with their quirks to help (or hinder!) you in the fight against cosmic threats. Furthermore, the expansion brings a host of new cards: Assets, Spells, Artifacts, and Conditions that can be a blessing or a curse for your characters. And the big news are the Adventure and Prelude cards, which for the first time, give a different shape to your journey, molding the global struggle against the Ancient Ones in unprecedented ways. Do you and your team have what it takes to survive the frozen wastes of Antarctica, unravel the secrets of the Mountains of Madness, and perhaps, postpone the inevitable end of human civilization? The adventure is epic, the difficulty is high, and immersion is guaranteed for those who enjoy good cosmic horror!

Quick answers before you buy
Is Eldritch Horror: Mountains of Madness a standalone game or an expansion?
It's an expansion! You'll need the Eldritch Horror base game to play Mountains of Madness. It adds new elements and a whole new region to explore.
How many players can participate, and what's the average game duration?
The expansion maintains the same player count as the base game, from 1 to 8 players. Games are lengthy, typically lasting around 180 minutes, or even longer, depending on complexity and player count.
What's the difficulty or weight level of the game with this expansion?
The base game is already considered medium-heavy, and this expansion slightly increases both complexity and challenge. It's for those already accustomed to denser, more strategic games.
What are the main highlights this expansion adds?
The big highlights are the new Antarctica region, eight brand-new investigators, and the introduction of Adventure and Prelude cards, which change how the story unfolds, plus many new Assets, Spells, and Artifacts.
Is a good grasp of English necessary to play?
Yes, the expansion, like the base game, features a lot of text on cards and events. A good command of English or an auxiliary translation is highly recommended to fully enjoy the narrative and rules.
Who is this expansion best suited for?
It's perfect for Eldritch Horror fans looking for more content, challenges, and even deeper immersion into H.P. Lovecraft's universe. If you enjoy cooperative games with rich storytelling and a touch of cosmic horror, you'll love it!
