About the game

What you do in a play session

Empires in Arms is a war and diplomacy game that places you in the role of an absolute monarch of one of the great European powers of the Napoleonic era—Austria, France, Great Britain, Prussia, Russia, Spain, or Turkey. The 25x35 inch board covers Europe on a continental scale, allowing armies and fleets to move in blocks while diplomats negotiate alliances, treaties, and war strategies. Each nation has unique resources, armies, and advantages, and the game is divided into monthly turns that include diplomacy, reinforcement, naval, land, and every third month an economic phase. The economy is the heart of the game: money and labor from provinces and conquests determine recruitment and national strength, and generate victory points counted in the economic phase. Land battles consider leadership, grand tactics, and troop morale, while naval battles depend on wind control and coastal batteries. Secret deployment adds surprise, and the game offers scenarios from 4 to 132 turns, with campaigns that can last 100 to 150 real hours. Complexity is high, requiring attention to logistical details and diplomatic negotiations, but replayability is guaranteed by variable setup and unique powers of each nation. In short, Empires in Arms is an epic simulator that blends military strategy, economy, and diplomacy into a challenge even for the most seasoned players.
