Escape: The Curse of the Temple – Expansion 1: Illusions brings two sets of tiles that can be played alone or mixed with any other module from the original Escape game. The first, Illusion Chambers, replaces the tiles that had only a single magic gem in the base game with six new illusion chambers. When adventurers return to the starting point – something they must do twice to avoid losing a die – all illusion chambers are removed and returned to the bottom of the tile deck, leaving the temple disconnected. The Special Chambers module adds six tiles with more complex mechanics: three linked chambers that allow gem activation but require two players to be in separate chambers simultaneously; two double chambers with front and back rooms, where access to the back is only possible when the temple is expanded; and a treasure chamber holding a chalice that players must carry to the exit, otherwise they lose the game. The pack also includes extra components for up to six players and two new curse cards (Soul Exchange) and a new treasure tile (Large Torch). The expansion keeps the frantic pace and tension characteristic of Escape, but adds strategic layers by requiring coordination to activate gems and ensure the chalice reaches the end. In short, Illusions offers more tile variety, new gem combinations, and an added challenge of holding the chalice, all without changing the core of the base game.
