Objective of the Game
Welcome, fellow Flamekeepers! In Flamecraft, you're not just a person; you're a skilled artisan of dragon placement and enchantment, aiming to become the most renowned Flamekeeper in town! Your goal is to grow your **Reputation** by strategically visiting **Shops**, placing adorable **Artisan Dragons** in their ideal homes, casting powerful **Enchantments**, and fulfilling the secret desires of your **Fancy Dragons**. The Flamekeeper with the highest **Reputation** at the end of the game will be crowned the Master of Flamecraft!Preparation (Setup)
Alright, let's get this dragon-filled town ready for some crafting! Here's how to set up your game:- Town & Starter Shops:
- Roll out the **Town mat** in the center of your table.
- Place the 6 **Starter Shops** faceup on any 6 **Shop spaces** in Town.
- Place each **Starter Artisan Dragon** faceup on the **Shop** with the matching icon in its top left corner, covering the first slot along the bottom of the **Shop**.
- Goods & Coins:
- Place the **Goods tokens** in separate piles off to the side, easily accessible to all players.
- Place the **Coin tokens** in a pile on the **Fountain**.
- Shop Deck:
- Sort the **Shop cards** into piles based on their top-left icons (one pile for each of the 6 **Goods** icons, and a 7th pile for all other icons).
- Flip these 7 piles facedown and shuffle each separately.
- Take 1 card from each of the **Goods Shop** piles and 4 cards from the 7th pile to create a facedown stack of 10 **Shops**. This is your **Shop deck**.
- Shuffle the **Shop deck** and place it to the side of the **Town mat**.
- Artisan Dragons:
- If playing with 2 or 3 players, remove some **Artisan Dragon cards** from the deck (12 for 2 players, 6 for 3 players).
- Shuffle the remaining **Artisan Dragons** to form the **Artisan deck** and place it on its marked space next to the **Fountain**.
- Reveal the top 5 cards and place them faceup in the **Park** next to the deck.
- Fancy Dragons:
- Shuffle the **Fancy Dragon cards** to make the **Fancy deck** and place it on its marked space next to the **Fountain**.
- Enchantments:
- Choose either the Purple or Golden **Enchantment deck** (Purple is recommended for your first game).
- Shuffle the chosen deck and place it on the marked space inside the **Reputation track**.
- Reveal the top 5 cards and place them in a faceup row next to the deck.
- Player Setup:
- Each player chooses a **player token** (dragon) and takes the matching-color **Reputation marker** (heart) and **player aid card**.
- Gather all **Reputation markers** and randomly reveal one to determine the first player. Then place all **Reputation markers** near the start of the **Reputation track**.
- Deal each player a hand of 3 **Artisan Dragons**.
- Deal each player 2 **Fancy Dragons**. Each player chooses 1 **Fancy Dragon** to keep and returns the unchosen one to the bottom of the **Fancy deck**.
- If playing with 4+ players, the 4th and 5th players each take 1 **Goods token** of their choice to start.
The Turn of Play
A turn in Flamecraft is all about making smart choices to boost your **Reputation**! Players take turns clockwise, starting with the first player. On your turn, you'll always visit a new **Shop**, then decide whether to **Gather Goods** or **Enchant** that **Shop**.- Visiting a Shop:
- Choose any **Shop** in Town that you didn't visit on your last turn and move your **player token** onto it.
- Important: If other players are already at your chosen **Shop**, you must give each of them 1 **Good** of your choice (or 1 **Coin**) from your personal supply. If you can't pay, you must choose a different **Shop**!
- Choose an Action: Gather or Enchant!
Gathering from a Shop
If you choose to **Gather** from the **Shop** you visited, follow these steps in order:- Gather Goods: Gain **Goods**, **Coins**, and **Artisan Dragons** from the **Shop** itself, and from each **Artisan Dragon** and **Enchantment** currently at that **Shop**. The icon in the top left of each card tells you what it provides (specific **Goods**, a **Good** of your choice, a **Coin**, or an **Artisan Dragon** from the **Park** or top of the deck).
- (Optional) Place a Dragon: You may place 1 **Artisan Dragon** from your hand into an empty **Dragon slot** at the **Shop** that has a matching icon. After placing, gain the rewards printed on that slot.
- Filling a Shop: If you fill the last empty slot at a **Shop**, draw a new **Shop** card facedown and place it on any empty spot in Town. You'll reveal it at the end of your turn!
- (Optional) Fire Up a Dragon: You may use the ability of any 1 **Artisan Dragon** at the **Shop** (even one you just placed!).
- (Optional) Use Shop Ability: You may use the **Shop's** special ability, if it has one. Remember, you can only use a **Shop's** ability when you **Gather** from it, not when you **Enchant** it.
Enchanting a Shop
If you choose to **Enchant** the **Shop** you visited, follow these steps in order:- Cast Enchantment: Choose an **Enchantment card** from the faceup row that matches the **Shop's** icon. Pay its **Goods cost** (you can use **Coins** as wild **Goods** unless the **Enchantment** has a "no coins" symbol). Tuck the **Enchantment** behind the **Shop** and gain its rewards.
- Enchantment Limits: A **Shop** can only have up to 3 **Enchantments**. **Shops** with a **Dragon** or **Coin** icon cannot be **Enchanted**. If a **Shop** has a **Wild** icon, any **Enchantment** can be cast there.
- Reserving Enchantments: Some abilities let you reserve an **Enchantment** by taking it from the row and placing it faceup in front of you. You can then cast your reserved **Enchantment** instead of one from the row. You can only have 1 reserved **Enchantment** at a time.
- (Optional) Fire Up ALL Dragons: You may use the abilities of *any number* of **Artisan Dragons** at the **Shop**, in any order. If firing up a **Dragon** allows you to place a new **Dragon** at the **Shop**, you can even fire up that new **Dragon**!
- Ending Your Turn:
After **Gathering** or **Enchanting**, perform these cleanup steps:
- Expand Town: Flip any new **Shops** you drew during your turn faceup. They're now open for business!
- Dragons & Goods Limit: You can have a maximum of 6 **Artisan Dragons** in your hand and 7 **Goods** of each type. Discard down to these limits if you have more. (No limit on **Coins** or **Fancy Dragons**!)
- Refresh Park & Enchantments: Draw new faceup **Artisan Dragons** and **Enchantments** until there are 5 of each in their respective rows. If either deck runs out, it triggers the end of the game!
End of the Game and Scoring
The game ends when the last card of either the **Artisan deck** or the **Enchantment deck** is drawn or revealed. Each player, including the one who triggered the end, gets one final turn. Once everyone has had their last turn, it's time to tally up those hard-earned **Reputation** points!- Leftover Coins: Each player returns all **Coins** in their supply to the **Fountain** and gains 1 **Reputation** per returned **Coin**. (Remember, you must turn in **Coins** before scoring **Fancy Dragons**, so you can't use them for **Fancy Dragon** goals at this point!)
- Fancy Dragons: Each player reveals any **Fancy Dragons** with a **Moon** icon whose goals they've fulfilled and scores the indicated amount of **Reputation**.
- Sun Dragons: These **Fancy Dragons** are scored *during* the game by revealing them on your turn once their goal is met. You can only score each **Fancy Dragon** once.
- Moon Dragons: These **Fancy Dragons** are only scored at the end of the game.
Tips for Winning
Want to be the most celebrated Flamekeeper? Here are a few pointers to get you started:- Don't Forget Your Fancy Dragons! Your **Fancy Dragons** are secret goals that can give you a huge boost in **Reputation**. Keep an eye on their requirements and try to fulfill them throughout the game. Decide if you want to focus on **Sun Dragons** for immediate rewards or save up for big **Moon Dragon** scores at the end.
- Strategic Dragon Placement: When placing **Artisan Dragons**, consider not just the immediate reward from the slot, but also the **Dragon's** "fire up" ability and how it synergizes with the **Shop's** ability or other **Dragons** already present. Sometimes, placing a **Dragon** that helps you **Gather** more **Goods** for an **Enchantment** can be more valuable than a quick **Reputation** bump.
- Master the Art of Enchanting: **Enchanting Shops** can be incredibly powerful, especially since it allows you to "fire up" *all* **Artisan Dragons** at that **Shop**. Look for opportunities to **Enchant Shops** that have multiple **Dragons** with strong abilities, or where you can pay the **Enchantment cost** multiple times for greater rewards. Don't forget that **Coins** are wild for most **Enchantment** costs!
