Goal of the Game
In Flip 7, a "press-your-luck" game, the goal is to be the first player to reach 200 points to win. You score points based on the total value of the number cards in front of you. The more valuable a card, the more copies of it exist in the deck. If you successfully flip 7 number cards in your line, you automatically end the round for everyone and score a 15-point bonus.
However, if you draw a second card with the same number as one already in your line, you "bust" and are out of the round, scoring nothing.
Setup
- Shuffle the 94-card deck.
- Choose a player to be the Dealer for the round.
Gameplay
The game proceeds in rounds, with a different Dealer each round. The flow of a round is as follows:
- Initial Dealing: In turn order, the Dealer deals one face-up card to each player, including themselves.
- If an Action card appears during dealing, pause dealing immediately to resolve it.
- Once any Action cards are resolved, continue dealing until everyone has received a card.
- It is important to note that not everyone will have a number card at this point. Some players may have a number card or Modifier, but others may have no cards or even three or four cards, depending on the Action cards dealt.
- "Hit" or "Stay" Option: The Dealer then offers each player, in turn order, the option to "Hit" (take another card) or "Stay" (exit the round and keep their points).
- If you choose "Hit", place the number cards in a single line, with the Score Modifier cards above them.
- End of Round: The round continues until one of two conditions is met:
- There are no more active players because all players "busted" or chose "Stay".
- OR
- A player manages to Flip 7 number cards, ending the round immediately.
- Start of the Next Round:
- Set all cards from the round aside. Do not shuffle them back into the deck.
- Pass the remaining cards in the deck to the left; that player becomes the new Dealer.
- When the deck runs out, shuffle all discarded cards to form a new deck.
- If a reshuffle is necessary mid-round, leave all cards in front of the players where they are, even if that player has "busted" and is out of the round.
Actions and How to Play
Players have two main options during their turn, in addition to interacting with Action cards and Modifiers:
Turn Options
- Hit: Take another card from the deck. If you "Hit", place the number cards in a single line, with the Score Modifier cards above them.
- Stay: Exit the round and keep the points accumulated so far.
Card Types
The special Flip 7 deck contains the following types of cards:
- Number Cards: Range from 0 to 12. The number of copies of each card in the deck is inversely proportional to its value (twelve 12s, eleven 11s, ten 10s... down to one 1, and one 0). The zero is a number card that is worth no points.
- Action Cards: Can be played on any active player, including yourself. If you are the only active player in the round, you must play the Action card on yourself. Place these cards above your number cards.
- FREEZE!: The player who receives this card keeps all the points they have collected and is out of the round.
- FLIP THREE!: The player who receives this card must accept the next three cards.
- Regardless of how many cards are left to flip, stop if the player successfully manages to Flip 7 number cards.
- If, while the cards are being revealed, a Flip Three or Freeze appears, it counts toward the total number of cards required. Resolve the additional Action card AFTER all three cards have been drawn or the player "busts". Even if the player "busts", they then choose an active player to play the Flip Three or Freeze on.
- SECOND CHANCE!: Keep this card. If the player with this card "Hits" and receives another card with the same number, discard the Second Chance and the duplicate number card. A player can have only one Second Chance card in front of them at a time. If they receive another Second Chance card, they then choose another active player to give it to. If there are no other active players or if everyone else already has one, then discard the Second Chance card. Additionally, all Second Chance cards are discarded at the end of a round, even if they were never used. This can happen if the player who bought it received a Freeze card played on them or if they successfully managed to Flip 7 number cards.
- Score Modifier Cards:
- +2 to +10 Cards: Add the shown value to the sum of your number cards.
- x2 Card: Double the points of all your number cards. The x2 does not double points gained from other Modifier cards.
Additional Rules
- You cannot "bust" on Action cards or Modifiers! Place these cards above your number cards.
- The only way to get the Flip 7 bonus is to have seven number cards face-up in front of you.
End of Game and Scoring
End of Round
The round ends when:
- There are no more active players (everyone "busted" or chose "Stay").
- OR
- A player manages to Flip 7 number cards, ending the round immediately.
Scoring Calculation (per Round)
Calculate scores as follows:
- Sum the value of the number cards.
- If you have the x2 multiplier, double your score for the round.
- Add any additional bonus points.
- If you Flip 7 number cards, score 15 additional points.
End of Game
At the end of the round in which at least one player reaches 200 points, the player with the most points wins.
