About the game

What you do in a play session

Prepare to set sail for Scoundrel Bay, an archipelago where fortune favors the boldest (or craziest) pirate captains! In Fortunes of Scoundrel Bay, you take command of your own crew with the goal of amassing as much gold as possible. To achieve this, you'll need to conquer strategic harbors, explore secret hideouts, deliver valuable cargo, and perhaps even unearth legendary treasures. Oh, and don't forget to gain prestige by battling sea monsters that cross your path!

Each captain builds their crew throughout the game, unlocking increasingly powerful actions. Your turn is dynamic: play a card from your hand and choose one of three possible actions – Recruit, Sail and Shoot, or Invade. The only rule is that you cannot repeat the action from the previous turn, forcing you to think with flexible strategies. The deck features 84 unique, multi-use cards, all adaptable to any of the three available actions. Pay attention to the events that arise after each 'reef' (game milestone), as they bring challenges and require you to feed your crew. The game accelerates as captains advance, and crossing the fifth reef ends the match. Rushing to the finish might be tempting, but be careful not to leave your fleet too weakened to secure victory!

Fortunes of Scoundrel Bay shines with high interaction, without being aggressive. You'll compete for control of valuable islands, participate in an open draft to recruit the best crew members, race to engage monsters before rivals, and engage in blind auctions to outwit other captains. The game comes packed with high-quality components, including unique player powers, asymmetric boards, screen-printed captain and ship miniatures, as well as plenty of pirate figures and event cards.
