About the game

What you do in a play session

Gatenkaas is a fast, tactical card game that works wonders for families and kids who enjoy a light strategic challenge. Each player holds a hand of cards showing mice in different colors and holes through which the mice can be seen. On your turn you play a card, trying to line up the holes so that mice of your color become visible. Every mouse peeking through a hole awards cheese, which counts as a point. When the draw pile is empty and no one has cards left in hand, the game ends. At the end you tally how many of your colored mice are visible and the player with the most points wins. The rules are straightforward: play a card, check the holes, and score points. A typical playtime is about 20 minutes, allowing multiple rounds in one gaming session. With a weight of 1.33/5, Gatenkaas is very approachable for beginners. The main components are illustrated cards featuring colorful mice and holes, making the game visually appealing for youngsters. While simple, there is a tactical element in deciding where to place a card to block or reveal opponents' colors. It’s an excellent introduction to color‑matching and basic planning without overwhelming complexity. If you want a short, colorful game that the whole family can grasp in a few minutes, Gatenkaas delivers exactly that.
