About the game

What you do in a play session

Ever wondered what it's like to be the scariest ghost in a century-old manor? In Ghostel, the Creepstone Manor has been reopened as a hotel for the living, which is an absolute nightmare for the ghosts who have called it home for decades. You and your friends take on the role of ghostly minions tasked with driving these unwanted guests out by turning their stay into a series of terrifying encounters. The game is a clever blend of worker placement and dice rolling, where each round is split into two distinct phases: day and night. During the day, you prepare your strategy, buy new Terror Dice, and upgrade your scare tactics. When night falls, the real fun begins. You move through the hotel rooms, leaving your Terror Dice behind to influence the inhabitants. The core mechanic is straightforward: the sum of your dice in a room must exceed the human's courage level to scare them away. Successfully doing so earns you points and favor with Spookie, the manor's master. The twist is the semi-cooperative nature of the game; while you are competing to be the top ghost, you often need to combine forces with other players to drive out the toughest hotel patrons. While the dice rolls introduce a layer of luck, the real depth comes from your tactical decisions on where to place your influence. Lasting about an hour, Ghostel is a smooth experience that hits the table easily. It offers a fun, spooky theme that doesn't overwhelm players with heavy rules, making it a perfect pick for a family game night with a dash of strategic mischief. Sharpen your haunting skills, practice your best scares, and make sure those humans don't get a wink of sleep. The competition for Spookie's patronage is fierce, and only the most chilling ghost will be crowned the master of Creepstone Manor!
