About the game

What you do in a play session

Hanamikoji: Geisha's Road revives the rivalry between two patrons eager to see their favorite geishas shine in Kyoto's tea houses. Each player controls a hand of cards representing actions, performances, and support for Yoko, Tomomo, and other aspiring geishas. Cards are played simultaneously, and the trick lies in deciding when to reveal your plan: you can cut your opponent's deck and let them choose, or commit forces to secure dominance in specific areas. As the geishas progress from maiko to full geisha, they return to their original ochaya for the erikae ceremony; a second return can even crown them as new okaasan, earning extra prestige. The board is divided into influence zones where players vie for majority, while set collection determines who gathers the final points. The game ends abruptly once a victory condition is met, keeping tension high until the last move. In about 25 minutes, two players dive into a duel of hidden intentions, where each card choice can invite conflict or a temporary alliance. The delicate artwork and cultural theme add charm, but the real fun comes from hand management and the constant implicit negotiation that makes every playthrough unique.
