Harsh Shadows is a solo espionage game that puts you in the shoes of an infiltrating agent trying to dismantle an international conspiracy. The board is made up of nine location cards arranged in a 3x3 grid, each with a hidden discovery card. Around this grid you find file cards, case cards, and a deck of spy movement cards. The goal is to locate the spy, place a tracking bug, and gather the three pieces of information that match the three cases before he escapes. You start by moving to an adjacent location, revealing the discovery card – it could be an item, clue, or bomb. Items and clues go into your hand, while bombs force you to discard cards. Each location has a special ability that can be used only once per game, and clues can be used to reveal hidden case cards. The spy moves randomly, following movement cards that take him to adjacent locations; when he lands on your spot, you must discard a card. If you can’t, or if you discard an item that matches a case, you lose immediately. When the discovery deck runs out, the spy attempts to flee: you need the bug, the three correct information pieces, and to be in the same location as him to win. The game blends hand management, card‑conflict resolution, and random movement, creating a tense, strategic experience that demands focus and careful planning. It’s perfect for fans of deduction, puzzle, and espionage themes, offering a 20‑30 minute solo adrenaline rush.
