About the game
What you do in a play session
Hart an der Grenze, also called Border Crossing, puts each player in the shoes of a smuggler trying to get across a border with a mix of legal and illegal goods. At the start of a round everyone declares what they are carrying – but they may only name items that are legal, which opens the door for well‑crafted lies. Each turn one player becomes the sheriff and picks a person to inspect. If the sheriff catches someone whose declaration hides extra items, the smuggler must open the luggage: undeclared goods are seized and a fine is paid. Before opening, however, the player can offer the sheriff a few dollars as a "kindness" fee to avoid the check – if the sheriff accepts, the round continues unharmed.
During the game players can stock goods for the moment the border shuts down; at that point prices double, but only a limited amount of each product can be sold, and the biggest trader of each type gets priority, securing the best profit. The blend of bluffing, negotiation and hand management creates quick (about 40‑minute) rounds filled with laughter and tension. The game supports 3‑6 players, has a light weight (1.4/5), and shines at casual get‑togethers or parties, where fun stems from both creative lies and the debates over who paid the sheriff the most. In short, Hart an der Grenze delivers simple strategy, constant interaction, and plenty of smuggling stories that end up as jokes among friends.
