About the game
Hutan: Life in the Rainforest is a family board game that transports players straight into the lush heart of Indonesian jungles. Each player starts with a patch of land where they can plant seeds, flowers, and over the rounds watch those sprouts grow into towering trees. When a habitat area is completed, an iconic animal appears – you might see an orangutan, a Sumatran tiger, a hornbill, a cassowary, or a Sumatran rhinoceros. The game unfolds over nine rounds, with each player making two turns per round. On your turn, you draw a flower card from the shared market and place it on your rainforest. If you stack a flower on top of a matching color, a tree grows. When an area is finished, the last tree is replaced by an animal. At the end, the player who has cultivated the most beautiful forest and attracted the most animals scores the highest points and wins. With simple components – flower cards, tree tiles, and a square grid board – Hutan blends the thrill of drafting cards with the satisfaction of building ecosystems. It’s a quick experience, with playtime between 30 and 45 minutes, suitable for 1 to 4 players and also works as a solo game. If you love ecology, nature, and a touch of competition, Hutan is a fun and educational pick for all ages.
