About the game
In Il Vecchio, you are transported to the vibrant 15th-century Tuscany, a period dominated by the powerful Medici family, led by Cosimo de Medici, 'the Elder.' As the head of an ambitious Florentine family, your goal is to rise to power, surpassing your rivals. To achieve this, you will dispatch your family members throughout Tuscany, undertaking various strategic tasks. Imagine recruiting knights, assassins, and abbots, or collecting essential coins to expand your dominion. With these resources, you can take control of neighboring provinces, securing not only power but also valuable bonus actions. But it doesn't stop there! It's crucial to gain the favor of the local gentry, as this opens doors to important positions in Florence, such as a seat on the city council, which amplifies your actions, or a noble rank, which yields points at the end of the game. The trick is that to complete these missions, a specific middleman needs to be in the right place, and they are always on the move. So, strategically positioning your family members is key to saving time and money. Each player starts with four family members on the board, and each turn, performs one action. Before acting, you can move a family member by paying a cost. Actions include performing specific tasks in Tuscan locations (requiring a middleman and an active family member), conquering provinces in other regions, seeking positions in Florence (spending scrolls and money), introducing a new family member to the game, or reactivating all your family members. The game ends when the 'power of the Medici' wanes, symbolized by the depletion of crest tiles. In the end, whoever has the most power points, accumulated from titles, control of regions, and Florence, will be the grand winner.
