About the game
Get ready for a rather peculiar medieval dispute in Illumination! Here, you and another monk compete for the position of Scriptorium master, and your main weapon is the art of illuminating manuscripts. But beware, one of the monks is a bit too 'inspired,' swapping angels for demons and knights for dragons in his works. Who will be the new leader? The one who follows the traditional path, with monks, dogs, and angels, or the rebel who prefers rabbits, squirrels, and demons?

Each round, you'll compose pages for three different books by placing entire rows or columns of tiles from your personal mat. This art demands strategy, as by positioning tiles, you can collect coins for special actions or purchase cards that give you that extra boost. Furthermore, connecting tiles of the same color generates Ritual tokens, which are worth points at specific monastery stations, especially when the Abbot is nearby. But peace doesn't last long: the tiles placed in the books initiate epic conflicts! Angels versus demons, knights versus dragons, monks versus rabbits, and dogs versus squirrels. The battle only ends when one side is completely surrounded. Whoever has more tiles there wins the dispute, flips the opponent's tiles, and scores points on battle cards. In the end, glory goes to the player who accumulates the most points, whether from rituals, illuminated tiles, won battles, or by fulfilling their secret crusade card. It's a game with quick-to-learn rules but tactical depth for those who enjoy a good challenge.
