About the game

What you do in a play session

Get ready for a sorcerer's duel in the Pacific islands with Kahuna! This abstract strategy game for two players puts you in the shoes of a Kahuna, an ancient shaman vying for control of an archipelago. Each turn, you'll use cards to build bridges between the twelve islands or to tear down your opponent's bridges. The goal is to have the majority of bridges connected to an island to place your marker stone on it and secure dominance. But beware, losing bridges can cause you to lose conquered islands and even influence on adjacent islands, creating a domino effect that demands constant attention. The game unfolds over three rounds, each ending when the available cards are depleted. Points are tallied based on the islands you control. There's also a sudden death condition: if a player runs out of bridges on the board, the game ends immediately! Kahuna is known for its simple rules but offers surprising tactical depth. Managing the multi-use cards is key to success, as they can be used for building or hindering your adversary. The Kosmos edition stands out with its beautiful artwork and quality wooden components, making the visual experience very pleasant. It's a quick game, perfect for those who enjoy strategic duels with a bit of 'take that' interaction.
