King's Breakfast

In the fun and fast-paced King's Breakfast, players are invited to a royal feast and must indulge in various dishes, but with a twist! The King, an exemplary host, always serves himself last, and it would be a terrible faux pas to have more of a dish than he does. To complicate matters, the King's pet dragon, Emerald, occasionally snatches some food, adding an element of unpredictability. The main challenge is to eat as much as possible of the monarch's favorite dishes, but without ever exceeding the amount he himself consumed of each delicacy. It's a game of speculation and set collection disguised as a banquet, where greed can be your downfall.

Originally designed by Reiner Knizia, King's Breakfast has a trick-taking feel, but with a different twist. Instead of a traditional trick, players add cards to a pile until the total reaches 10 or more. Whoever adds the card that 'busts' the sum takes the entire pile – which can be great or terrible, depending on your goal for the round! There are five rounds in total, each with a specific objective: collect mushrooms, pea soup, onions, peppers (which are worth -1 point, unless they are your objective) or collect nothing. Objectives are revealed simultaneously, so competition is direct. Furthermore, you cannot repeat an objective, which makes the last rounds very tense, forcing strategic choices. With a consistent duration of about half an hour, it's perfect for those looking for a quick and decision-filled experience.
