About the game
What you do in a play session
Le Fantôme de l’Opéra is a tense 30‑minute duel between the Phantom and the Investigator set in the lavish rooms of the Opéra Garnier. The board features ten rooms linked by corridors and secret passages; eight suspect tokens occupy these spaces, each bearing a unique ability that can reveal or hide clues. At the start, one suspect is randomly chosen as the Phantom’s secret identity, while the Investigator seeks to uncover who it is before the soprano La Carlotta flees. Each round splits into two phases: on odd rounds the Investigator moves one suspect and uses its ability, the Phantom moves two of the remaining three, and the Investigator finishes by moving the last suspect. Then the Phantom declares whether he can cause a disturbance – he can only do so if he is alone or in the room with the blackout token – and the Investigator clears suspects according to the lighting of the rooms. La Carlotta advances one escape step for each suspect not yet declared innocent, gaining an extra step if the Phantom caused chaos. On even rounds the four hidden suspect cards are revealed and the Phantom starts the movement sequence. Movement follows grid rules: a character may move up to as many spaces as there are characters in the room they leave, and some, like Meg Giry, can use secret passages. Abilities such as blocking corridors, moving the blackout, attracting or repelling characters each have a crucial role, and players must know when to exploit them. The game ends when a single suspect remains non‑innocent (Phantom wins) or when La Carlotta escapes to Milan (Investigator wins). The asymmetry and information management make the match a deduction puzzle, ideal for fans of quick, thematic, highly interactive games.
