About the game

What you do in a play session

Get ready to dive headfirst into the turbulent French Revolution with Liberté! This game transports you to France from 1789, through its ups and downs, all the way to Napoleon's coup in 1799. It spans four intense turns, each with several rounds culminating in a decisive election to determine who's in charge. You'll lead one of three factions: the Radicals (red), the Moderates (blue), or the Royalists (white). The main action involves placing your faction blocks on the board to assert influence. The game uses two card decks: deck 'A', which favors the Moderates and Royalists, and deck 'B', which boosts the Radicals, coming into play after 'A' is depleted. An election is triggered when a type of faction block runs out, and the faction with the most support forms the government. Victory points are earned by demonstrating influence in government and opposition, as well as through battle victories and specific provincial elections. But beware! The game can end abruptly in two ways: a radical electoral landslide (17+ votes) or a successful Royalist counter-revolution (controlling 7 provinces). In these scenarios, accumulated points become irrelevant, and victory is determined by different criteria. Liberté demands planning and might seem chaotic at first, but you'll soon uncover the strategies beneath the apparent mess. It's a unique experience that will make you think outside the box!
