About the game
What you do in a play session
In Lone Wolves, each player takes the helm of a wolf pack and battles to become the dominant Alpha. The board is split into five territories, and each round (or trick) both players select a wolf card from their hand of 13 and place it in a territory of their choosing. Cards range from 2 to 7 in five suits; the number represents the strength sent to that area. The higher card wins the trick, stays face up, while the losing wolf flips to its "lone" side with a strength of 1, and its owner receives a scar token placed in that territory. These scars are more than markers: they can grant extra points, modify strength values, or affect the final scoring of a region.
The standout mechanic is the dynamic trump. When all scar tokens from a territory are collected, the corresponding suit becomes trump. If this occurs a second time, the trump suit shifts again. Thus, strategy isn’t just about winning tricks but also about timing losses to generate useful scars and manipulate the trump. There are no weak hands—only leaders who didn’t know when to show their teeth.
With a playtime of roughly 15 minutes, Lone Wolves blends the tension of trick‑taking games with the depth of area‑majority influence. It’s perfect for intense two‑player duels where every decision on where to deploy your wolf can swing the outcome. The components include 30 cards, 5 scar tokens, and a compact territory board, all illustrated with fierce wolves. If you enjoy tactical card duels, two‑player face‑offs, and animal‑themed battles, this game will have you howling with delight.
