About the game
Hipparchus puts you in the shoes of an ancient Greek astronomer, where each player must share discoveries without dominating. The deck has three suits – Sun, Moon, and Earth – with ten cards each, for a total of 30 cards. Each player receives 14 cards and cannot rearrange their hand; it’s a pure hand‑management game. The leader opens with 1 to 3 cards of a single suit, but cannot break pairs or triples that are in hand. The follower must play the same suit, if possible, but with a different number of cards; if they can’t, they may play 1 to 3 cards from another suit. When both play the same suit, the one who played more cards takes the trick. If they play different suits, the one who has fewer cards of that suit in their collection takes the trick; in a tie, the following player wins. When someone runs out of cards, the round ends. Each player tallies points: if you have more cards of a suit than your opponent, you score points equal to the number of cards they have. The higher scorer wins the round, and the first to win two rounds wins the game. It’s fast, strategic, and has a historic flair that recalls the classic era of Hipparcos.
