About the game

What you do in a play session

It's time to dive deeper into the world of Waterdeep with *Lords of Waterdeep: Scoundrels of Skullport*! This isn't just one, but two complete expansions that will supercharge your base game. Get ready to explore the depths of Undermountain, a gigantic, labyrinthine dungeon that promises epic rewards for those who take on its more complex quests, demanding more gold and adventurers. It's the perfect place for those seeking greater risk for an even grander return. But if you enjoy a touch of mischief, Skullport, the Port of Shadow, is your place. Nestled deep within Undermountain, this criminal haven introduces the Corruption mechanic. Unlike usual resources, having Corruption tokens in your tavern at the end of the game is a penalty, and the negative value increases as the city becomes more corrupt. It's a moral and strategic dilemma: is it worth getting your hands dirty to get what you want? Both expansions bring new Lords, Buildings, Intrigue, and Quest cards, plus a sixth player with the Gray Hands faction, increasing interaction and complexity. You can use one expansion or both, mixing and matching to create the perfect experience for your table. Get ready for more strategic depth and risky decisions!

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers before you buy

7 questions
What does Lords of Waterdeep: Scoundrels of Skullport add to the base game?
This expansion brings two complete modules, Undermountain and Skullport, which can be used together or separately. It adds new Lords, Buildings, Intrigue, and Quest cards, as well as components for a sixth player and the Corruption mechanic.
Can Scoundrels of Skullport be played without the Lords of Waterdeep base game?
No, Scoundrels of Skullport is an expansion and requires the Lords of Waterdeep base game to be played. It complements and expands the original experience.
What's the main difference between the Undermountain and Skullport modules?
Undermountain focuses on longer, more rewarding quests, with higher resource costs. Skullport introduces the Corruption mechanic, where collecting Corruption tokens penalizes players at the end of the game, adding a moral risk-reward element.
Does the expansion increase the game's complexity?
Yes, with the addition of new mechanics like Corruption, more Building and Quest options, and the possibility of a sixth player, the strategic complexity is definitely elevated, making the game denser with more decisions.
How many players can the game accommodate with this expansion?
With Scoundrels of Skullport, the maximum number of players increases to six, thanks to the inclusion of the Gray Hands faction and its components.
How long does a game take with the expansion?
While the base game is 60 minutes, adding the expansion can slightly extend playtime, especially with more players and more strategic options to consider. Expect something between 60-90 minutes.
Who will enjoy this expansion the most?
Fans of the base game looking for more strategic depth, more player interaction, and a greater challenge. If you enjoy moral dilemmas and 'push your luck' mechanics, Skullport will be a treat!
