You know those moments when a group is hanging out and someone says something so absurd that everyone bursts out laughing? Well, Man Bites Dog turns exactly that creative chaos into a frantic and hilarious card game! The premise is simple, but the comedic potential is massive: you are a newspaper editor trying to craft the most sensational (and ridiculous) headline possible to rack up points.
The mechanics are straightforward, without any of that tedious rulebook bloat. Each player is dealt a hand of cards featuring various words, each carrying a specific point value. On your turn, the challenge is to construct a headline that makes sense—or is so bizarre that it's worth it—using the words in your hand. If you feel like your hand is a bit lackluster, don't sweat it: you can discard and replace up to three cards to try and improve your luck.
To add some extra spice, there are 'Exclusive' cards. If you manage to incorporate one into your headline, your total point value doubles! It's the kind of move that can catapult you to the top or leave you in total embarrassment, but that's exactly what makes the dynamic so much fun. The ultimate goal is to be the first player to reach the 500-point mark. If someone hits this target while the rest of the round is still totaling scores, the player with the highest overall score wins the title of the day's best editor.
With an incredibly short playtime of just about 10 minutes, it is the perfect 'filler' game for those breaks between heavier titles or to kick off a game night on the right foot. It is light, fast, and above all, focused on interaction and player creativity. Get your best sense of humor ready, because the headlines coming out of this game are bound to be memorable!
