About the game
What you do in a play session
Apples to Apples is the party classic that turns words into laughter. The deck is split into two piles: Descriptions, featuring adjectives like "hairy" or "smarmy," and Things, filled with a wide variety of nouns. Each round starts with the active player drawing a Description card and reading the adjective aloud. The other players secretly pick from their hand the Thing card that best matches that adjective and place it face‑down. The judge then reveals all the choices, selects the one they like most, and awards the Description card to the player who submitted the winning Thing. The first player to collect a predetermined number of Description cards wins. The rules are straightforward, the game runs quickly (about 20‑30 minutes), and it supports 4‑10 players, making it ideal for large groups. Expansions add more cards, but the core mechanic stays the same: creative matching, spontaneous humor, and a dash of subjective judging. That’s why Apples to Apples remains a go‑to favorite at casual gatherings, delivering memorable moments and plenty of fun without complexity.
