About the game

What you do in a play session

Hey everyone! Ready to conquer the Mediterranean? In Mare Nostrum: Empires, you take the helm of an ancient civilization and battle for control of 'our sea,' as the Romans called this vital region. Choose from iconic empires like Rome, Greece, Egypt, Babylon, or Carthage, each with its own strengths and charismatic leaders such as Caesar, Pericles, Cleopatra, or Hannibal. The goal is to expand your influence, build trade routes, erect markets, found cities and temples, and even recruit heroes and construct wonders to ensure your people's glory. But beware, because in the ancient world, others' ambition can be as dangerous as an enemy army! This version is a modern reimagining of the 2003 classic, featuring updated rules, brand-new components, and a spectacular game board. You can focus on military expansion, cultural development, economic prosperity, or even aim to seize the titles of Trade Leader, Cultural Leader, and Military Leader. Gameplay lasts between 90 to 120 minutes for 3 to 5 players, with moderate complexity. It's a game that blends strategy, negotiation, and a touch of luck with dice, perfect for those who enjoy historical themes and power struggles.
