Step by step
Game Objective
In Marvel United: Tales of Asgard, players control Heroes (Thor, Valkyrie, and Korg) on a mission to stop Loki, the God of Mischief, from conquering Asgard. The game introduces the Traitor Challenge, where one player may secretly be working for Loki. The Loyal Heroes must complete Missions while uncovering who the Traitor is. The game ends when the Heroes defeat Loki or when the Villain completes their objectives.
Setup
- Separate the components: 36 Hero Cards (12 for each Hero), 12 Master Plan Cards, 6 Threat Cards, 4 Loyalty Cards, 4 Suspicion Tokens, and the 6 Locations (Heimdall's Observatory, Odin's Treasure Room, etc.).
- In games with 3 or 4 players, use the Traitor Challenge: deal 1 face-down Loyalty Card to each player (remove 1 Loyal card if playing with 3). The player who receives the Traitor card will be Loki's secret ally.
- Each player receives 1 Suspicion Token and 1 normal token.
- Set up the board with the Locations and place Loki on the Villain Panel.
Refer to the manual for details on this section.
Game Flow
The game is divided into alternating turns between the Heroes and the Villain (Loki or the revealed Traitor). Each turn follows this structure:
- Heroes' Turn: Players play cards to perform actions such as moving, attacking, or using special abilities.
- Villain's Turn: Loki activates his Master Plan cards or the Traitor (if revealed) chooses between two cards to play.
Locations like the Asgardian Palace or Valhalla have effects at the End of Turn (e.g., moving Heroes or drawing cards).
Actions and How to Play
- Hero Cards: Each card has symbols that allow actions like moving, attacking, or unique abilities. Heroes can play cards face down in the Plot to discard Suspicion Tokens.
- Locations: Each has an effect at the End of Turn. Ex.: At the Bifrost Bridge, you can add up to 2 tokens to any Location.
- Traitor Challenge: The Traitor acts secretly until revealed. After 2 Missions are completed, players vote to identify them. If correct, the Traitor is removed and takes control of Loki.
Refer to the manual for details on this section.
End of Game and Scoring
The game ends when:
- Heroes win: If they defeat Loki.
- Villain wins: If Loki completes his objectives or if all Heroes are Knocked Out.
- Traitor wins: If the Heroes lose and the Traitor is not discovered in time.
In the Traitor Challenge, Loyal Heroes who correctly identify the Traitor gain tokens. Heroes with Suspicion Tokens take damage until they are Knocked Out.
Tips to Win
- Manage Suspicion Tokens: Discard them by playing cards face down in the Plot, but remember this reduces your actions.
- Use the Locations: Effects like those in the Throne Room (moving adjacent Heroes) can optimize your strategy.
- Observe other players: In the Traitor Challenge, suspicious actions may reveal who is helping Loki.
