Maya transports players straight to the height of the Maya civilization, where each participant acts as a leader eager to leave a legacy by building monumental pyramids in cities like Chichén Itzá and Palenque. The goal is to secure the largest share of gold the Maya chiefs distribute at the end of the game, and to do that you’ll need workers, stone, and clever auction tactics. Each round starts with an auction for resources – stone, food, or workers – and the highest bidder claims the desired card. Workers are then sent to quarries to extract blocks that, once transported, can be placed in construction zones. Every board area has an influence threshold; controlling the majority of blocks in a zone earns influence points that convert into gold. The game blends area control, tactical bidding, and a dash of tile placement, all within 60‑90 minutes, perfect for players who enjoy strategic choices without a mountain of rules. With 3‑5 players, Maya is highly interactive: you’ll watch opponents’ bids, block their transport routes, and sometimes sacrifice a bid to win a crucial area. The artwork showcases vibrant Yucatán scenery, and the components – cards, worker tokens, and stone blocks – are sturdy and easy to handle. If you love games that mix auctions, territory control, and a well‑realized historical theme, Maya might just become your next tabletop obsession.
