Objective of the Game

In this epic game of trade and plunder, you'll embark on a grand adventure as a daring captain, navigating treacherous waters, outsmarting rivals, and building your legend. Your ultimate goal? To be the first captain to accumulate 10 Glory Points!

Preparation (Setup)

Alright, landlubbers, let's get this show on the road! Setting up Merchants & Marauders is a breeze, so grab your components and let's make some magic happen:

1. First things first, unfold the magnificent game board and place it proudly in the center of your table. This is your world, captain!
2. Next, shuffle the various decks of cards: the Event cards, Rumor cards, Ship Upgrade cards, and Captain cards. Place each shuffled deck face-down in their designated spots on the board.
3. Now, each player chooses a Captain card and takes their corresponding ship miniature. Place your ship in any port of your choice.
4. Each player also receives 3 Gold to start their journey. Don't spend it all in one place, unless it's on a really good rum!
5. Finally, place the Glory Point tokens and Gold tokens in easily accessible piles near the board. You'll be needing these!

The Game Turn

Ready to set sail? A game of Merchants & Marauders unfolds over a series of turns, with each player taking their turn in clockwise order. Here's a quick rundown of what you can do on your turn:

On your turn, you can perform a series of actions to move your ship, engage in trade, or even raid other vessels. While the full breadth of actions is vast, here are some of the core activities you'll be undertaking:

• Movement: You can move your ship across the seas, from one sea zone to another, or even into a port. Be mindful of the winds and potential dangers!
• Port Actions: When in a port, you can perform various actions, such as:
  • Buying or Selling Goods: Engage in lucrative trade, buying low and selling high to earn some much-needed gold.
  • Recruiting Crew: Hire skilled crew members to bolster your ship's capabilities.
  • Repairing Your Ship: Fix any damage your ship might have sustained in battle or from rough seas.
  • Stashing Gold: Keep your hard-earned gold safe from prying eyes (and other players!).
• Combat: If you encounter another player's ship or a non-player ship (NPC), you might find yourself in a thrilling naval battle! Combat involves rolling dice and using your ship's stats and crew to gain the upper hand.
• Scouting: When in a sea zone, you can choose to scout for valuable information or potential targets.

End of Game and Scoring

The game of Merchants & Marauders continues until one daring captain reaches the coveted 10 Glory Points! As soon as a player achieves this magnificent feat, the game immediately ends, and that player is crowned the undisputed master of the seas!
