About the game

What you do in a play session

In Neptun, you step into the sandals of an ambitious Roman merchant navigating the Mediterranean in a high-stakes logistics race. Your main goal is to earn the most favor from the temples through efficient deliveries. The game unfolds over three rounds, each featuring distinct phases where careful planning is your best asset.

The core of the game lies in its drafting mechanism. You select contracts and must arrange them in a specific sequence, as they must be fulfilled in that exact order. This creates a compelling spatial puzzle: you need to sail your ship between ports and temples, but your ship's range is limited. This is where gold becomes vital. Beyond being convertible into temple favor points, gold can be used to extend your ship's range, allowing you to bridge those long legs of the journey that would otherwise be impossible.

Don't let the lighter weight fool you. The need to anticipate your position on the map and decide which contracts fit your current route requires constant strategic thinking. If you fumble the contract sequencing, you'll end up wasting resources and missing crucial delivery windows. The game flows elegantly: you draft, navigate, deliver, and score. With each round, the pressure mounts, and route optimization becomes the key differentiator between success and failure. It’s a classic pick-up-and-deliver experience with a dash of hand management and route planning that appeals to both fans of lighter Eurogames and those looking for a logistical challenge without the burden of a 50-page rulebook. Trim your sails, organize your contracts, and prove that Neptune is on your side in these Roman waters!
