Step by step
Game Objective
In Blizzard, you face a harsh winter where you must protect your Cabin from the elements and other players. Your goal is to:
- Equip 6 Food cards in your Cabin by the end of your turn OR
- Have the most Food cards equipped after 8 rounds.
To survive, you'll need to gather resources, recruit Allies, equip Upgrades, and face the effects of the Blizzard each round.
Setup
- Separate the cards into 4 piles: Cabin, Food, Special, and Blizzard (with separate discard piles).
- The youngest player goes first (or whoever rolls the highest number on the dice). Play proceeds clockwise.
- Each player draws 4 cards from the Cabin pile to form their starting hand.
- Leave space in front of each player for the Chimney (equipped cards area).
Game Flow
Each match lasts up to 8 rounds or until someone equips 6 Food cards. Each round consists of:
- Blizzard Phase: Reveal the top card from the Blizzard pile and apply its global effect for the round. If no cards remain, the game ends.
- Action Phase: In clockwise order, each player takes their turn:
- Draw 3 cards (from any pile except Blizzard).
- Perform up to 3 actions (can repeat actions).
At the end of the round, all players flip their Heat cards face up (if they were face down).
Actions and How to Play
Available Actions
- A. Summon Allies (1 action):
Play 1 Ally card from your hand to your Cabin, if you have more Food cards equipped than Allies. You may discard an existing Ally to replace it.
- B. Equip Upgrade (1 action per attempt):
Choose an Animal, Food, or Heat card from your hand. Roll 2 dice and add:
- Bonuses from Allies of the same type (e.g., Chef for Food).
- Effects from Special cards (like Lucky Wind).
Difficulty: 7+ (1st card), 8+ (2nd), 9+ (3rd), etc. If you fail, discard or use a Heat card to reroll.
- C. Engage in Battle (1 action):
Attack an adjacent player (once per turn). Both players roll 2 dice and add:
- Bonuses from Animals and Allies (attack/defense).
- Effects from the active Blizzard card (e.g., Cutting Wind gives +1 to attack).
If the attacker wins, they steal 1 equipped Food from the defender.
- D. Store Food (1 action):
Discard 3 identical Food cards from your hand to equip 1 to your Cabin (no test required).
- E. Draw a Card (1 action):
Draw 1 card from any pile (except Blizzard) to your hand.
Special Cards can be used at any time (does not cost an action).
End of Game and Scoring
The game ends if:
- A player equips 6 Food cards by the end of their turn OR
- After the 8th round (or when Blizzard cards run out).
The player with the most equipped Food cards wins. In case of a tie, the player with the most Upgrades (Animal/Heat/Allies cards) wins. If still tied, victory is shared.
Tips to Win
- Prioritize Food cards: They are your win condition and required to summon Allies.
- Use Allies strategically: Chefs help with Food tests, while Hunters and Guardians strengthen attacks/defenses.
- Monitor Blizzard effects: Some cards negate defense or attack bonuses—adjust your actions accordingly.
