About the game

What you do in a play session

If you've already mastered the streets of New York 1901, get ready to add some extra spice to your territorial disputes with the Goons of New York expansion. This promotional pack introduces an interesting dynamic: five new 'Boss' cards that grant special powers to the players who manage to dominate the districts on the board. The real fight kicks off once all players have reached the Silver Age. At that point, the game checks who controls the most territory of each color (keeping in mind that pink is excluded in two-player games).

Whoever holds the majority of a color takes control of the corresponding Boss. From then on, at the start of each turn, you can activate the 'goon power' to place a goon in strategic locations, such as specific streets or Bronze Age skyscrapers. These goons earn you extra points based on certain conditions, but be careful: power is fleeting. If another player manages to surpass your influence in that color, they seize control of the Boss, and you have to say goodbye to all your associated goons. It's a game of cat and mouse where territorial control dictates who really runs the city.

A fascinating detail is the origin of this content. Goons of New York was created in partnership with the Brooklyn Game Lab, an after-school program where children learn game design and strategy. Hundreds of kids worked together in a month-long game-jam to design and playtest these mechanics. The result is an add-on that rewards territorial aggression and influence management, making the final stretch of the game much more tense and dynamic. Originally distributed at trade shows and conventions, it's a unique piece for collectors looking to deepen their base game experience.
