About the game
What you do in a play session
Get ready for a hilarious and auditory adventure with Nuru-Nuru Mountain Gorilla, a party game that dives into the world of Japanese onomatopoeia! The dynamic is simple, but fun is guaranteed for 3 to 8 players in quick 10 to 30-minute matches. The game starts with twelve onomatopoeia cards laid out in a 3x4 grid, and an additional card revealed as the 'Theme' – for example, 'Mountain Gorilla'.
One player takes on the role of Leader and secretly draws a card from the box, which indicates which of the twelve displayed onomatopoeia is the secret answer for the round. The funniest part is when the Leader must say the Theme word aloud, but using the intonation and 'feeling' of the secret onomatopoeia. Imagine a 'Mountain Gorilla' said in a 'slimy' (NURU-NURU), 'prickly' (TOGE-TOGE), or 'sluggish' (DARA-DARA) manner! The other players can then briefly discuss and ask a single question together. After the discussion, everyone simultaneously points to the onomatopoeia they believe the Leader was imitating.
Each correct guess earns 1 point for the player and 1 point for the Leader. If everyone guesses correctly, the Leader gets an extra point, but if no one guesses correctly, the Leader loses a point – the pressure is real! Each round, the answer card is discarded, the Theme card flips to fill the empty space, and the card the Leader drew becomes the new Theme, keeping the dynamic always fresh. Play continues until everyone has been the Leader once, and the player with the most points at the end is the grand winner. With 31 different onomatopoeia, the combinations and laughs are endless!
