About the game
What you do in a play session
Otys is an optimization and development game that places you in command of a team of divers in a post‑apocalyptic setting. Each player controls a stack of divers on their own board, each with a depth ranging from 1 to 5. When you select an available depth, you perform the corresponding action on the shared board, and then the diver retrieves items or fulfills contracts. After the action, the diver surfaces, pushing the other divers down; the depth marker moves to the bottom of the board and can only be reused when the calibration meter is full. The goal is to accumulate 18 points before the opponents, combining collected items to claim shared or personal objectives. The action‑queue mechanic creates a layer of anticipation strategy, while contracts introduce short‑term goals that require resource planning. The game works both in solo mode, where you compete against the scenario itself, and in multiplayer, where direct competition raises the challenge. The components are solid: sturdy boards, detailed diver pieces, and contract cards that add variety. The learning curve is moderate, with clear rules that allow newcomers to get up to speed quickly, but the strategic depth rewards those who invest time in planning their moves. If you enjoy games that blend optimization, item collection, and decision‑making under pressure, Otys offers an engaging experience rich in tactile and strategic nuance.
