About the game

What you do in a play session

In Paupers' Ladder, you're not a noble knight, but a humble orphan with a bird companion, ready to prove your worth in Brighthelm's most unusual tournament. The late ruler Garolium Scraggart, who rose from poverty, left a legacy: a tournament open only to the neediest, ensuring no one else's potential is stifled by bad luck. Your goal is to learn three of the five virtues – generosity, fellowship, bravery, knowledge, and magnificence – before your competitors. To achieve this, you'll explore the treacherous lands of Brighthelm, battling fantastical creatures, undertaking challenging quests, and gathering ingredients to craft powerful recipes. The game blends area movement, where you and your bird navigate the board, with deck/bag building to enhance your abilities and set collection to achieve objectives. Each turn presents a tactical decision: move, explore, fight, or utilize your improved skills. With over 400 cards depicting equipment, quests, recipes, and dangers, each game promises a new adventure. Prepare for an epic journey where cunning and perseverance are worth more than gold, and where the ladder to success is built by those who need it most.
