About the game
In Potion-Making: Practice, you step into the shoes of an apprentice mage at a magic school, tasked with crafting various potions, powders, and even mystical creatures. The goal is to rack up the most points, with greater rewards for successfully preparing more complex recipes. The deck features 76 cards, each split: the bottom half displays one of 16 available elements, and the top half shows the magic formula or spell to be completed. Each player starts with four cards, and four element cards are laid out on the 'Desk of Elements,' ready for use. On your turn, you draw cards until you have five in hand, then decide your move. You can discard an element onto the desk, earning a point if it's a new addition. Alternatively, you can use elements from the desk to complete a formula on a card in your hand, scoring the indicated points and placing the element cards face-down, revealing the completed formula. The twist? You can leverage already completed formulas (yours or opponents'!) to create even more elaborate recipes. When you do this, the elements used in the old formulas return to the desk, and the player whose formula was 'borrowed' earns half the points of the new creation. Spells also come into play, allowing you to snatch cards from the desk, undo formulas, or even transform them. The game concludes when the deck runs out and no one has cards left in hand, with the highest scorer claiming victory!

Games are quite quick, typically lasting around 40 minutes, perfect for a snack break or before diving into a longer game.
Is it a difficult game to learn?
No, the complexity is quite low (BGG weight 1.7/5), ideal for beginners or those looking for something lighter.

Is the Alchemy theme well represented?
The fantasy and alchemy theme is present in the cards and the goal of creating potions, but the focus is more on the set collection and hand management mechanics rather than a deep alchemy simulation.
Is it worth it for players who enjoy more complex games?
If you're looking for deep strategy and complex decisions every turn, Potion-Making: Practice might not be the best fit. It shines more as a light and fun game.
