About the game

What you do in a play session

If you are already a fan of the classic Qwixx, get ready for an experience that keeps the spirit alive while adding an extra layer of strategy. In Qwixx: Das Kartenspiel, the dice are left behind, and the deck takes center stage. The objective remains the same: fill in as many numbers as possible across four colored rows on your scoresheet, respecting the ascending or descending order for each color. The big shift here is that you now have a hand of cards to manage, allowing you to plan your moves with much more care and significantly less reliance on pure dice luck.

The game flow is quite dynamic. Each round, you replenish your hand by drafting cards from an open display, which introduces a nice tactical layer to the table. You must decide which numbers to hold onto and which to discard to mark off your sheet. The discard mechanic is the heart of the game: you can discard cards of the same color to mark off sequences, but be careful! If you cannot mark off a number on your turn, you are forced to take a penalty point. The tension ramps up as colors get locked, and the game ends as soon as someone locks two colors or collects four penalties.

It is a fast-paced game, perfect for those moments when you want something light that still requires a bit of brainpower. The inclusion of multicolored joker cards adds a special spice, allowing for unexpected plays that can save your score in the end. It is an excellent choice for those who enjoy 'roll-and-write' style games but want to feel they have more control over their own destiny. The learning curve is very gentle, allowing new players to pick it up in minutes, while Qwixx veterans will appreciate the tactical depth that hand management brings to the table. If you enjoy a good filler that fits in your bag and keeps the group entertained, this card version is a solid hit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers before you buy

5 questions
Is it very different from the original Qwixx?
The core of marking numbers in colored rows is the same, but using cards instead of dice shifts the game from a 'luck-based' feel to a 'hand management' one, giving you more control.
How many players can play?
The game works great with 2 to 5 players.
How long does a game last?
It is quite fast, usually around 15 minutes, making it a perfect filler between heavier games.
Is it hard to learn?
Not at all! If you know the basics of roll-and-write style games, you can learn it in under 5 minutes.
What are the joker cards?
They are special cards that can act as any color when played, which helps a lot in unlocking difficult rows.
