About the game

What you do in a play session

RA and Write brings the charm of Reiner Knizia's classic RA into the flip‑and‑write format, using only paper, pen and a handful of cards. The game unfolds over three "Kingdoms" – Old, Middle and New – representing stages of an Egyptian civilization. In each Kingdom players fill out their personal score sheet, advancing in areas such as agriculture, trade, monuments and religion. Each round ends as soon as three Ra cards are revealed; when the third appears, the Kingdom ends immediately and everyone tallies their points. After the third Kingdom is scored, the player with the highest total wins.

The paper‑and‑pencil mechanic keeps everything fast and portable: flip the top card, decide which actions to record, and move on. Choices are strategic because you must balance set collection (e.g., gathering deity symbols) with end‑game bonuses that reward specific milestones reached throughout the game. With a light weight (1.4/5) and a short playtime (about 20 minutes), it’s perfect for quick sessions or as a warm‑up before a heavier title.

Components are minimal – printed score sheets, a deck of Ra cards, pencils and a scoring marker – yet the artwork faithfully reproduces the aesthetic of the new 25th Century Games edition of RA, featuring temples, hieroglyphs and gods that set an immersive tone. Despite its simplicity, strategic depth emerges from planning each turn, anticipating which cards may still appear, and maximizing end‑game bonuses. RA and Write is a great gateway for newcomers to the original and a refreshing bite for veterans who enjoy resource‑management challenges without elaborate boards.
