About the game
What you do in a play session
In 1347, the Black Death threatens to devour Europe and North Africa. In *Rattus: Big Box*, you and your friends take on the role of community leaders trying to survive while the epidemic spreads across the continent. Each player starts in a different region of the continental map and collects profession cards – from peasants and bakers that grow the population, to the wise monk who protects against the plague, or the fierce knight who spreads the disease. The *Area Majority / Influence* mechanic makes territorial control crucial: whoever dominates the majority of pieces in an area earns points and resources. *Area Movement* lets your units move between regions, simulating migrations of people and rats that carry the disease. And, of course, each player receives *Variable Player Powers*, making every game unique – one might heal faster, another move more pieces per turn. The game offers 30 to 60 minutes of pure medieval tension, with 2 to 6 players. If you enjoy territorial control strategy, historical pandemics, and a touch of dark humor, *Rattus* will be your next favorite.
The Big Box includes everything from the base, the *Pied Piper*, *Africanus*, and *Academicus* expansions, plus unseen modules like *Guilds & Inns* and *Bonus*. Bonus cards such as The Judge, The Jester, and Boccaccio add unexpected twists. All of this sits on a continental-scale map covering all of Europe, with high‑quality components and upgrade tiles for those who want to scale difficulty.
Get ready to command your communities, spread or contain the plague, and in the end, find out who truly kept the population alive. It’s a game that blends strategy, luck, and a bit of misfortune – but the outcome always ends up in your hands.
