Get ready to dive into the mystical world of Res Arcana, where magic is the currency and power awaits those who master it! In this game, you take on the role of a powerful mage – whether an alchemist brewing potions with otherworldly fluids, a druid grinding herbs for ancient rituals, or a necromancer summoning bone dragons in the catacombs. The objective is simple: be the first to accumulate 10 or more victory points and prove your arcane mastery. But how? By manipulating the five magical essences: Life, Death, Elan, Calm, and Gold. Each is crucial for fueling your spells and artifacts. At the start, you choose your mage, who comes with a unique ability, and receive an initial deck of artifacts. Each round, players collect essences from their components and then perform actions in turns. Actions are varied: you can play an artifact, claim a monument or a Place of Power (which often grant victory points and abilities), discard a card for essences, use the powers of your components already in play, or pass. Passing is a strategic action, as the first to pass in the round gains the First Player token, swaps their magic item for another, and draws a card. The game proceeds for 4 to 6 rounds, with components being reactivated each new round, until someone reaches the 10 victory point mark. With multi-use cards and a constant race for resources and points, Res Arcana is a tactical challenge that rewards clever planning and adaptation.
