About the game
What you do in a play session
Get ready to conjure incredible spells in Res Arcana Duo, a souped-up, two-player-only version of the acclaimed Res Arcana! If you're already a fan of the base game, know that Duo adds 35% more cards, expanding your magical possibilities. And the best part: it works both as an expansion you can mix with the original Res Arcana and its other expansions (Lux et Tenebrae and Perlae Imperii), and as a super-focused standalone game for pairs. The essence of magic remains the same: Life, Death, Elan, Calm, and Gold are the ingredients you'll need to collect to become the ultimate master of the arcane arts. Choose your mage with unique powers, gather the right essences, build powerful artifacts, and use them to summon dragons, dominate places of power, and, of course, secure victory! Duo introduces a brand-new drafting system, designed especially for two players, and a tighter set of 16 artifacts. One key difference is the absence of direct player attacks, which might be a relief for those who prefer a more strategic and less confrontational duel. Each game lasts an average of 4 to 6 rounds, where you'll collect essences, perform actions like placing artifacts, claiming locations, discarding cards for extra resources, or using abilities of components already in play. Passing is a strategic move to exchange magic items and draw more cards, but beware, whoever passes first gets to be the first player in the next round. The goal? Accumulate 10 or more Victory Points to seal your win! If no one reaches the target, all components are 'straightened' and a new round begins. It's a game that demands planning and adaptation, with a moderate learning curve, but it greatly rewards those who master hand management and the synergies between their artifacts.
